Reception class have been so busy learning from home and in school this half term.

We have been exploring lots of traditional tales linked to our ‘Step Back in Time,’ topic.  I think our favourite was, ‘The Gingerbread Man.’ We had to warn the Marple community that the Gingerbread Man had in fact escaped the fox and was running about our playground (caught on cctv!) We made wanted posters with lots of adjectives so we could find him again. We have made castles for princesses and knights and read lots about dragons too.

Reception have been so diligent at continuing to review and learn new phonics sounds daily and they have been super impressive during our weekly Tricky Word Competitions. We have also done lots of quizzes to revise and retain all the phonics sounds we have learned each week.

We have followed or whole school maths scheme daily too using the excellent videos provided by White Rose. We have also explored how we see maths everywhere in the natural world around us, sharing photos of our walks with numbers and number bonds that we could see. As always, we continued to keep up our fine motor development with our dough disco during our class Zooms and wiggle while we squiggle sessions.

The children have also had a lot fun with many Muddy Puddle inspired lessons outside.  We realised we had quite a few budding David Attenborough’s when we researched llamas and also found a newly discovered fascination with bird watching, best seen through ‘toilet roll bird sighting binoculars’ of course!!
